Permanent Hair Reduction

IPL/ND-YAG Laser

A focused, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin by the handpiece. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the bulb (root) of the hair. The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located, as opposed to the rest of the hair shaft. As the light is converted to heat energy, it causes necrosis to the bulb cells and the derma papilla, which supplies blood to the hair follicle. The anagen hairs therefore fall out and prevent further regrowth.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is X-Light/ND-YAG Laser Hair Removal Technology?
X-Light/ND-YAG Laser Hair Removal technology offers a gentle, non-invasive, long-lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other body area. X-Light Calibrated Pulsed Light/ND-YAG Laser is based on technology that has been performed safely for many years, effectively treating excess hairs of different colour and on most skin types.

How can individual suitability to the treatment be determined?
Even though X-Light/ND-YAG Laser Hair Removal Technology is capable of treating any colour of hair on any skin, at consultation, the skin specialist will evaluate the treatment suitability according to the individuals need.

How does X-Light/ND-YAG Laser remove hair?
Highly controlled flashes of light/laser are selectively absorbed by hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light is converted into heat and burns the hair, which damages or disables the follicle, without effecting the surrounding tissue.

What happens during a treatment?
It begins by trimming the hair above the skin. It will be asked to the client to wear dark glasses to protect the eyes from the bright light. Next, the skin is cleansed with and a cold gel is spread over the treatment area. The hand-piece is placed on the skin and pulses of light are flashed. When the gel is removed, most of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining hair in the treated area falls out over the next week or two. To finish the treatment Restore, a desensitising lotion will be applied on the skin.

What does the treatment feel like?
Each pulse of light/laser feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band. No local anaesthetic is required and most people find the treatment comfortable, also due to the constant stream of cold hair projected from the hand-piece.

Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Some slight reddening or local swelling may be experienced at the treatment site, but this typically goes away within hours. On rare occasions, some blistering or bruising may occur, but usually resolves quickly. Also, the skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimize the risk of complications. Following the treatment, clients can generally return to work and resume all regular activities immediately.

What kind of results should be expected?
X-Light/ND-YAG laser Hair Removal Technology has been proven to create a permanent reduction of hair follicle after each treatment, in most skin types. The number of treatments required depends from individuals. A customized treatment program will be designed for you along with an estimate of how many treatments you may need in order to meet your expectations. On average you should expect to be treated at least 4-5 times before full clearing occurs. The reason for this is that a hair follicle can only be damaged when in growing stage, anagen. Hair grows in cycles. Among all the hair shown, only certain percentages are in the anagen stage, while there are hundreds that are in the dormant stage, telogen. Therefore treatment dates are set to catch the many cycles of hair growth.
