Fusion RF
Non-invasive lipo reducing procedure
The Fusion RF works by producing heat, attaining temperatures of 60-70C in the dermis and adipose tissue (fat tissue), while the epidermis is maintained at a temperature of 39-42C, so as to prevent any epidermal burns.
The high temperatures cause a number of effects to occur in the skin, as a result of the thermal damage that is induced:
• The fat cells are heated up, the water within the fat cells is vaporized and the fatty acids are released (excreted by the lymphatic circulation)
• As the heat is produced, the blood and lymphatic circulation are stimulated, draining the lymphatic fat and the deformed connective tissue, thus diminishing the orange peel look (cellulite) and body fat.
• Since the blood and lymphatic circulation are stimulated, the cells become oxygenated, thus improving the quality of the skin.
• Fibroblasts are stimulated to produce more collagen and elastin
• Longitudinal and vertical retraction of collagen fibers (it can be beneficial to clients with stretch marks)
Frequently Asked Questions
What can Fusion RF energy treat?
Fusion RF is primarily used to treat skin laxity by facial and body skin tightening, excess fat and cellulite and is best suited to patients with mild to moderate sagging of facial or body tissues, usually those in their mid thirties to fifties, with any skin colour.
What should patients do before treatment?
They should try to avoid doing anything that may irritate the skin, immediately before treatment. This includes sunbathing (natural or artificial). It should be avoided to treat someone who has sun burn, as they would be more likely to suffer pain from the addition heat on already damaged skin; however an established tan would be fine.
Some women find that their skin is more sensitive right before and during their menstrual cycle so if a woman is treated, should be taken into consideration that this may affect pain threshold.
How many treatments are required?
Immediately following the treatment, the skin will feel tighter, with more tightening improvements appearing gradually over the weeks after treatment.
Results can last up to a couple of years, and a single initial treatment can be enough to produce results in some people, depending on skin thickness; however during consultation a course of treatments specific to patient’s need will be assessed.
Does it have any down time?
Some people experience mild redness immediately following treatment (similar to a sunburnt look), but this usually disappears quickly. People find that they can return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment.
Does it hurt and what are the potential complications?
As the Fusion treatment is carried out, deep heating sensations will be experienced every time the RF energy is delivered to the skin and underlying tissue. The Fusion handpiece is chilled before, during and after the RF burst, to protect the skin from the heating, and make the treatment more comfortable.
As each person's pain tolerance and threshold varies, it is difficult to quantify how uncomfortable the treatment may be. It also depends on the power settings for the treatment that can be adjusted to suit patient’s comfort.
The most frequently side effects of treatment with RF energy are mild swelling, redness, and in very rare occasions, blisters on the treated area, which typically disappear in a few days.
What should patients do after treatment?
No special care is needed after treatment although some of the following may be suggested:
• Light application of a moisturizer, protective formulations (Renlive Cosmeceuticals) to the treatment area and to suit individual’s skin type may be suggested;
• cool, moisturising mists (Pure Water) may be applied as necessary;
• In the case that clients are on the fat dissolving program then they should drink 2L of water per day, to help with fat excretion.
Who should not undergo this procedure?
Healthy people without any skin diseases or infections in the area to be treated can safely undergo the Fusion procedure.
People with sensory disturbance to the skin may not be considered good candidates as this could make the reporting of discomfort during the procedure unreliable, leading to potential harm.
Although there is no evidence that this treatment is harmful for pregnant women, you would generally be advised to wait until after you have given birth before embarking upon a course of treatment.
More importantly, people with electrical devices e.g., pacemakers, or metal implants e.g., artificial metal hip joints, heart valves or dental plates, cannot be treated because RF current flowing through the body may interfere with these devices or heat up metal implants, which could be dangerous.
Why the treatment is considered so effective?
A number of studies through the world, published in consumer and medical periodicals have proven the benefits of Radiofrequency procedure for skin tightening and fat dissolving.
Is the treatment painful?
Treatment with Fusion RF is considered a mildly uncomfortable procedure.
What are Fusion RF safety features?
Fusion RF is a CE marked device and is certified from ISO 9001 and EN 2000
What clinical investigations have been carried out and what are the results?
Clinical investigations started in 2000 in USA, and demonstrate that radiofrequency is safe, effective and easy to use. The heat delivered into the skin, which is always constant means that the treatment is progressive, controllable and consistent in its results.
What are the advantages of Fusion RF over other types of skin rejuvenation procedure?
Skin ablation with lasers for example, can be highly aggressive and can produce permanent skin sensitivity. They may also require total anesthesia. Fusion RF is currently the only system able to guarantee progressive results without side effects, particularly unpleasant sensation or downtime.
What is the procedure time according to different areas?
The Fusion RF technology increases treatment speed: approximately 30 minutes are needed to treat a full face and neck. This is due to the larger RF tip feature. When treating the body, length of the session vary from 20 to 40 minutes.
Is Fusion RF effective on any skin type?
Fusion RF makes a lasting difference on any skin type of any age as the therapist can adjust the treatment to the individual skin.
